The bigger sibling of the Zyber 8S I run: 10 TH/s of open-firmware-family hashrate on a proper copper heatsink, and owners measure it nearer 13.7 J/TH than the rated 18. The catch is the price - at ~£427 it's the same money as three NerdQaxe++ boards, which is exactly the value argument every reviewer makes against it.

This is the big brother of the miner I actually run. I’ve got Zyber 8S units on the bench and I rate them, so when people ask whether the 10 TH/s Zyber 8G is the obvious upgrade, the honest answer is: it’s the better machine on paper, and it’s the harder machine to justify on price. Both things are true at once.
The take
TinyChipHub is the shop most Bitaxe people know for boards and cooling parts, and the Zyber line is their own hardware. The 8S I run is the value pick in it - eight chips, ~6.4 TH/s, around £210. The 8G is the same family scaled up: eight BM1370 chips, a heavier six-heatpipe copper-aluminium heatsink, and a real 10 TH/s. Where it gets interesting is that the 8G fixes the 8S’s most annoying quirk. On the 8S the headline hashrate is an overclock toggle you have to flip; on the 8G, owners report it holds close to the rated 10 TH/s straight out of the box. One independent reviewer measured a 1-day average near 10 TH/s at about 137 watts on his desk, which is not only the number on the box but better efficiency than the box claims - roughly 13.7 J/TH against a rated 18, and comfortably clear of the 8S’s thirstier ~21.9.
So why the hesitation. Price. The value case against it is the same one every reviewer and every r/BitAxe thread makes, and it’s hard to argue with: for roughly what the 8G costs you could field three NerdQaxe++ boards and end up with something like 18 TH/s instead of 10. The 8G’s answer is that it’s one tidy box - one heatsink, one screen, one plug - rather than three units to site, cable and keep cool. That’s a real convenience, and for some people it’s worth the terahash they give up. It just isn’t the maths-optimal choice, and I’d rather say that plainly than pretend the premium buys performance it doesn’t.
What the numbers actually mean
Ten TH/s buys roughly a 1-in-1,750 shot at a block in any given year at current network hashrate - better odds than the 8S’s ~1-in-2,750, still a proper long shot you run for the lottery ticket and the learning, not the income. Efficiency is the genuine good-news story: the ~13.7 J/TH owners see at stock is strong for this class and a clear step up from the 8S. At the rated 180 watts you’re looking at roughly 43p a day on a cheap overnight tariff, less if yours settles nearer the ~137 watts the reviewer measured.
The firmware is the same AxeOS-family lineage as the 8S and the Bitaxe, so if you’ve tuned one of those the Bitaxe overclocking principles carry straight over, eight chips at a time. TinyChipHub say their own labs push the 8G to 12-13 TH/s by lifting frequency and voltage in the web UI - I’d treat that as a maker claim rather than a promise, since I couldn’t pin down an independent test confirming the top figure, and there’s a real caveat attached. An owner running near 190 watts reported the bundled power supply’s leads warming up close to the pack’s safety margin, so the consensus is clear: if you plan to overclock hard, upgrade the PSU first. At stock 180 watts nobody’s flagging that.
On noise and heat the picture is mostly reassuring with one honest asterisk. Thermally it looks well sorted - that big copper-aluminium heatsink held the reviewer’s unit around 51C on the ASICs in a home office, with the voltage regulators near 63C. Noise is the fuzzy bit: TinyChipHub’s own materials quote anywhere from 36 dB to about 50 dB at normal settings and nearer 55 dB when you overclock into custom mode, so I wouldn’t hang a single number on it. Quiet at stock, audible when you push it, is about as far as I’ll commit without metering one myself. It keeps the 8S’s nice touches too - the 1.9-inch colour screen cycling live hashrate, temperature and power - and connects over Wi-Fi through the onboard ESP32, with no Ethernet port out of the box, which is normal for these boards.
Who should get one - and who shouldn’t
Get the 8G if you want one clean 10 TH/s box rather than a small cluster, if you’re moving up from a Bitaxe or a Zyber 8S and you like the family, or if a heavy heatsink and a tidy desk unit matter to you more than squeezing the most terahash out of every pound. The out-of-the-box hashrate and the better-than-rated efficiency are genuinely good, and TinyChipHub selling every spare part on the same site is worth more than people think when a fan dies in year two.
Don’t get one if value is the deciding factor - three NerdQaxe++ boards will out-hash it for similar money, and the community will remind you of that in every thread. Don’t get one expecting to overclock hard on the stock supply without spending a bit more on a PSU. And if you want a sealed, silent, big-brand appliance for a living-room shelf, this isn’t it - it’s an open-firmware-family miner from a small Hong Kong-registered shop, priced at a premium for the convenience of being one box. I run the cheaper sibling and I’m glad I do; whether the step up is worth it comes down to how much you value one tidy 10 TH/s unit over the terahash you could buy for the same outlay elsewhere.
